Seneca Competes in State Events
Dairy Products is Second in State

Seneca FFA members have been very busy exhibiting their knowledge and skills in Career Development Events during the month of December. The highlight of the month was a second place finish in the state Dairy Products CDE held at the University of Illinois.
The Section 7 Dairy Products Judging Event and the Agronomy Career Development Events were hosted by Woodland High School. Seneca placed first in Dairy and second in Agronomy.
The top individuals from Seneca for the Dairy Products Judging were: Kaelyn Williams - first, Perry Harlow - second, Steven Beisswenger – fourth, Nick Briscoe - fifth, Rachel Cisco – seventh, Erica Weinreich - eighth, and Megan McCormack – 9th. . The Dairy Products event consists of detecting off flavors in milk, distinguishing between real and artificial dairy products, conducting the California Mastitis Tests, identifying cheeses, and taking a written exam.
In the Section Agronomy CDE, top ranked member from Seneca were: Sarah Briscoe – 2nd, Austin Granby – 3rd, and Jake Ferguson – 6th. The Agronomy CDE required the identification of agronomic plants and seeds, identification and knowledge of insects, weed plant and seed identification, grading grain and feed samples and completing a written exam.
The team of Briscoe, Granby, and Brady Pool placed 22nd in the state event held in Champaign.
