Seneca FFA 5th in State Land Use CDE
Highest Finish Ever
October 13, 2009
Brittney Madison used to think that all "dirt" was the same. Now she knows that "soil" varies tremendously and can affect so many things.
The Seneca FFA's Land Use CDE Team of Madison, Austin Granby, Jake Ferguson, and Perry Harlow dug through the dirt/soil recently at Blackhawk College in Kewanee to claim fifth place in the state contest. The fifth place was the highest ever by a team from Seneca. Midland FFA won the event. Ferguson was the eleventh highest individual.
The Land Use CDE requires students to apply the knowledge they have learned about determining slope, identifying soil characteristics, and analyzing soil properties and then recommending soil conservation measurers. Scoresheets are completed on each of four soil pits that test the knowledge and skills students have learned in the Ag Science course.
