The Seneca FFA's Horticulture Team placed a school record high third in the recent state horticulture Career Development Event. Held at the University of Illinois, the competition involved identifying of over two hundred plants, evaluating live plants, taking a written exam about plant production, anatomy and physiology, creating a floral arrangement and discussing landscaping plant care. The contest was a component of the year long Introduction to Horticulture course in the agriculture education department at Seneca High School.
Individually, Carrington Flatness was the third highest individual, missing first place by only six points. Brandi Thompson and Sammi Angelakos placed seventeenth and eighteenth respectively. Also in the top twenty-five were Jake Rix and Braydan Hogue.
The event concluded the 2009 horticulture judging circuit which saw the team winning the Blackhawk College invitational and placing second in the Section VII event and the Joliet Junior College contest.
